Character(s) In-Game: Elektra Natchios (ultraviolents)
CHARACTER INFO
Character Name: Megara (her friends call her Meg)
Age: It's not established, but she's from a Disney movie and their protagonists tend to skew pretty young even if the character is portrayed as an adult. The movie mentions there being 18 years between Hercules's birth and Hades's botched hostile takeover of Mount Olympus, so my guess is that she's also around 18, maybe 19.
Canon: Disney's Hercules
World Description: Link. If that's a little too thin for you, Ancient Greece, but an extremely toned down, G-rated version of it, especially regarding the gods (for example, Zeus and Hera are Hercules's biological parents rather than Hercules being an illegitimate result of an affair Zeus has with a mortal woman).
History: Link (note: she is being played from movie canon only).
Death: Upon seeing Hercules was about to be crushed by a falling column, she shouted to alert him before pushing him out of the way, which results in Hercules's strength being returned to him as the promise that she'd be kept safe was broken. The column crushes her instead and she dies shortly after Hercules defeats Hades's attempted takeover of Mount Olympus, just before he returns to her.
What are your plans for this character in-game? I think playing someone who already has extensive experience with the dead and some forms of spirits (presumably; nymphs and monsters exist in her world) in another form of the afterlife could be really interesting, especially since her experience comes from before she'd canonically died.
What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? Spirits, the (somewhat) modern world, and the afterlife in general.
How does your character generally get along with other people? Meg is cynical and sardonic due to having been badly hurt by loved ones in the past; that said, she's not exactly cruel or mean-spirited. The sins she commits in canon are due to her not having had a choice over whether or not to commit them and she doesn't feel good about them, and when she realizes how she feels, she stands her ground and refuses to help any further, in spite of knowing her freedom from Hades will be off the table. When it comes to getting along with others, she can fairly easily but will try her hardest not to get too close.
What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? Pretty pragmatic, all things considered - she doesn't regret sacrificing herself to save who she'd come to love. One might accuse her of dealing with things a little too well, but she's been around death for a while even if this is the first time she's actually died.
Skills/Abilities: Meg is incredibly charming and persuasive; it's not made totally clear what Hades had her do outside of trying to get Nessus to join Hades for his hostile takeover but I imagine a lot of her tasks went along those lines. That aside, she has no superpowers or skills that couldn't be attained by an ordinary human - magic exists in her world, but she has not been touched by it.
Flaws/Weaknesses: Because of how she's been hurt, Meg is unwilling to let herself get close to people and resists it as much as she can, as a result of this her feelings often end up sneaking up on her and occasionally overwhelming her. She loves fiercely and is incredibly devoted; this has a history of working against her (ie: selling her soul to Hades to save the life of her ex-boyfriend, who ended up deserting her for another woman). She is not very fond of herself because of the things that she's done, considering herself foolish for allowing herself to be tricked and wrong for what she's done to Hercules.
Phobias include heights, which she has a terrible fear of. Physical weaknesses include weak ankles, a slight predisposition towards motion sickness, and while she's not exactly physically weak (she was strong enough to push Hercules out of the way of the column that caused her death, and while he was missing his strength at that time he'd retained his height and bulk and still outweighed her by quite a bit), she's also not formidably strong. She is presumably an ordinary physically fit human who happens to live in a world where magic, monsters, and Greek gods exist.
Personality: Megara is unique as a Disney character, especially as one in the typical 'princess' role, most notably due to the fact that she's initially on the side of the villains due to her arrangement with Hades. She's initially very independent and cynical and brushes off Hercules's attempts to help her, insisting she can handle the situation (a river guardian who's attempting to drag her back to his lair). Being betrayed by loved ones and (presumably) family has resulted in her building up walls and staying as emotionally distant as possible in order to avoid getting hurt again.
Meeting Hercules is a catalyst in changing this, although I wouldn't call it the sole factor since she already doesn't seem to feel good about the decisions she's made or the things Hades does or has her do. Him showing genuine kindness and desire to help people has her impressed and a little stunned, as everyone else she's met has only been out for themselves. Developing feelings for him has her realizing how good it feels to open herself up to someone and allow herself to feel good again, and she stands her ground when it comes to Hades and his plans, insisting she won't help him hurt him. This, her death, and how she came to be involved with Hades in the first place all showcase her loyalty and devotion; she is the definition of ride or die.
Items: Just the clothes on her back, which are fine if maybe a little dirty in spite of how brutal her death was. Disney, huh?
